San Ignacio

Holy shit it’s hot. I mean 39 degrees no A/C and no wind chill hot. Oh well we move. After a rather hungover boat ride to the mainland and a very sleepy 2.5 hr bus later, we arrive in the Belizian countryside. Off for some late lunch at a very odd establishment. Think school cafeteria but no walls and the odd tressle table here and there. I had chicken fingers with cheese and marinara sauce. Dhani had an assortment of stuffed jalapeños, bits of chicken and mayonnaise sandwiches? I chose well; he did not. Back to the hostel for a bit then grabbed some supplies from the supermarket and cooked up some pasta for supper.

There are some of you who may say we have not dabbled in the extraordinary culture and history of the areas we have visited and to that I say we now have!

Off to the french bakery for some snacks then an hour wait for a 1970s American school bus for our trip. Then a rather interesting river crossing. Surely a bridge would be easier? A mile uphill and bam some ancient stuff. I was actually really cool. We climbed up El Castillo which was the tallest temple at which point Dhani reveals he has a fear of heights? News to me. Dhani would also like to compliment the Mayans on their apparent invention of the ball game Fives (this isn’t true btw). Bus back and get then bump into Vitech for supper. Terrible Guinness to follow and then off to bed.

Guatemala up next. Vamos!

I hope this finds you all well,

Chaz

Ps I haven’t mentioned how nuts the roads are here. No speed limit in sight and no one pays attention if there are. Overtaking on blind corners and horns literally used to have conversations.

Pps We’d like to inform our mothers that we have been in no danger during transit thus far. Ok bye.
