La Fortuna

 Whoop whoop it’s me again.

After another stupidly long 12 hour transfer from the beach, we arrive in La Fortuna. Surprisingly more developed but it was very welcome after Samara. It’s Costa Rica so it immediately started raining again and we head out for some incredibly overpriced pasta.

Up for free brekkie (score!) and it’s time for an excursion. The hostel had a free shuttle to some hot springs so we opted for that. But it’s CR so it rained the whole time although the 40 degree water was quite pleasant. After about an hour and multiple rock towers built its a rather soggy ride back to the hostel. We have rarely self cooked meals on our voyages because it’s not really much cheaper but here it makes perfect sense. So glizzys seemed appropriate. After much debate about how one should cook it we opted for a duel boil/ fry approach. Americans met whilst slaving over the stove who suggested some rope swing action after din dins once the appropriate 1/2 hour time had passed. Recruited some more people en route who were also American. 8 Yanks 2 Brits. Brody (yeah I know it’s a bit cliche) was in our room so we already knew him but the we didn’t know the rest. Turns out not much crosses across the pond but always good to share some proper culture with them. Rope swing next to a highway bridge in pitch black in the middle of the Costa Rican rainforest may frighten the average person but this seemed tame compared to throwing ourselves down a volcano during a thunderstorm so onwards. No injuries and much beer consumed. Good. Back to the hostel with the gang before heading out to Charlie’s bar (great name). Expensive beer, terrible music and old Latino men. The night was called shortly after.

Up for more free brekkie and then I can’t really remember what we did in the morning but I made a family sized pasta for lunch. Dhani had some quesadillas. Uber to this waterfall we’d been hearing so much about. $18 entry but very much worth it. It didn’t rain either! From previous experience in these sorts of things we were expecting a dangerous and difficult hike to the view point and a mudslide hazard trek down to the river below. But it’s Costa Rica where ‘your safety is our number one priority’ so the view point was 25m from a gift shop and restaurant and the trek down was more like a DisneyWorld queue. Full of families but we decided to make it more exciting by ignoring the ‘please do not climb the rocks’ sign as we clambered to a good view point at the bottom. Freezing cold water so we didn’t stay for long before the hike back up passing countless overweight individuals on the stairs. Stupidly long wait for the return Uber and supper was an insane amount of assorted meats.

Up and off relatively early as we head across to the other side of Costa ‘arm and a leg’ Rica (I just came up with that).

Only a week to go :(.

Peace out,

Chaz
